Leaders: Why Should People Want To Belong To Your Organization?

For over four decades, I have been intimately involved, in nearly every aspect of leadership, from identifying, qualifying, training, developing and consulting, to thousands of actual, as well as potential leaders, to serving, on several occasions, personally, as a leader, for various types of organizations. I have, come to realize, often, one of the difference between a true leader, and the many, pseudo - leaders, is real leaders, proceed, with an open - mind, consider all viable options and alternatives, and dedicate themselves, to excellent, focused, relevant, and sustainable planning, while the rest - of - the - pack, often, resort to blaming others, instead of taking personal responsibility. We are presently, experiencing a period, when many organizations are finding, many obstacles and challenges, both internal, as well as external, and, only, when one, is willing to be introspective and objective, and question, why should someone belong to the specific group! Does your organization provide a relevant, sustainable purpose, which inspires and motivates others, to, belong to something, perceived as worthwhile, and valuable? With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly, review, consider, and discuss, some of the essential considerations.
1. Learn from the past, but don't get, stuck - in - the - mud: Great leaders learn, extensively, from the past, of the particular group. They seek to avoid making avoidable errors and mistakes, and strive to learn, in a meaningful way, from every experience, and observation. However, until/ unless, the individual, recognizes, the world evolves, and groups must adapt accordingly, and evolve their organization, it risks, being far less than relevant, meaningful, and sustainable.
2. Perceptions, and perceived value: How can anyone, become the best possible leader, unless he understands what existing members, seek and desire, and consider, valuable and meaningful? If you were not, already, involved, what might attract you, as opposed to losing your attention, etc? A quality leader must emphasize effective listening, and avoid the tendency to interrupt others, and/ or, to speak, instead of listening, We were born with two ears, and only one mouth, so wouldn't it make sense, if we dedicated, at least, twice as much time, and effort, listening, as speaking? This process requires discipline, and a willingness, and readiness, to proceed with the utmost degree of genuine empathy, by focusing on both, the actual needs, as well as perceptions, of their constituents and stakeholders. In addition, it's important, to take a look, at the bigger - picture, and proceed, with a well - developed, relevant strategy, and well - considered, action plan.
Why should anyone want to belong to your organization? How does it serve their actual, as well as perceived needs, and values? How will you articulate your message, clearly, and in an inspiring, motivating manner?
